On Results of VKM Report on Contaminants in Farmed Salmon

ALBANY, NY -- "Our study in the journal Science analyzed toxic contaminants in farmed and wild salmon collected from around the world and found Norwegian farmed salmon to be one of the most contaminated."

"The most important determinant of contamination has to do with where the fish is farmed and what it is fed, not where it is purchased. Since it's a global market, Norwegian farmed salmon is unfortunately available around the world."

"Because of the very high levels of contaminants it contains, Norwegian farmed salmon is dangerous because it increases the risk of cancer. Farmed salmon is an especially dangerous food for women of child-bearing age, developing fetuses and children because some of these contaminants have been demonstrated to cause cognitive deficits such as reductions in IQ."
